The Story of Smokin’ Guns BBQ & Catering
Phil and Linda Hopkins’ love for barbecue goes way back to 1997 when they entered their first BBQ contest. They quickly realized that they have a natural talent for creating great barbecue and decided to venture into competing in several BBQ contests in over a dozen states.
Their hard work and dedication paid off when they won the Grand Champion title at the 1999 Jack Daniel’s World Championship Invitational Barbecue Contest, competing against 41 other teams. They landed 1st place for best brisket, 2nd in pork, 4th in desserts, and 5th in ribs.
Inspired by their success, they decided to create their own line of barbecue rubs the following year which became so in-demand that they would regularly sell out. In 2003, Phil left his job as a supervisor at a metal fabrication plant to establish Smokin’ Guns BBQ & Catering in North Kansas City. Three years later, Linda joined him after leaving her job as a technical writer where they partnered to grow their business bigger.
Today, Smokin’ Guns BBQ & Catering continues to be a local favorite for their award-winning and consistently excellent barbecue. If you want a taste of their mouth-watering dishes drop by the restaurant in North Kansas City where the Hopkins family still serves flavorful plates of barbecue that are sure to satisfy your cravings.
